Sharing Water

It took Lucy and Cheri a little while to figure out how to both drink out of the same dish, but after a few weeks, they've finally figured it out.

Vet Visit Number 2

Lucy went to the vet for the second time over the weekend.  She was a very good girl and the staff was impressed :)  She gained six pounds since her last visit to the vet and besides a minor rash on her tummy, everything else looked great.

"Sharing" the Bed

Cheri and Lucy sharing the bed at lunch time. Cheri doesn't seemed too please (because little sisters can sometimes invade your territory and bite your whiskers), but Lucy is enjoying herself. In the end they still love each other.

Playtime

Shaun and I have been trying to get some good footage of Lucy and Cheri playing for the last few weeks.  However, we either forget, are too busy intervening, or just don't get anything that's worthwhile.  Tonight we gave them frisbees and actually remembered to film :)

Snow Day!

It finally snowed!  Here are a few cute pictures of Lucy playing in the snow today :)

Potty Perspective

This first week with Cheri and Lucy has been an adjustment.  I have never had two dogs before and neither has Shaun-let alone one 12 week puppy and one slightly neurotic, overgrown puppy.  So coordinating meals, playtime, and potty breaks has taken some practice.  After our rushed trip to California, I spent all of last week trying to recover and get caught up with life.  Although we are extremely happy Cheri is back, the first few days were a whirlwind.

However, the other night I was outside with both dogs, waiting for Shaun.  They needed to "hurry," so I gave the command.  Both squatted simultaneously, did their business, and ended at the exact same time.  They were like yin and yang, black and yellow, snuggly and independent, "adult" and child...

Though it sounds weird, I knew then while they peed that we would figure it all out.  There's nothing like a good, cold "hurry" break to enlighten the mind!

Learning "Bed"

Lucy is just beginning to learn the "bed" command.  She loves laying on the big comfy bed-especially when Cheri is also there!

Cape Photo Shoot

The puppies always look so cute and official wearing their capes!  Here are some fun shots we took of Lucy  a while ago that we didn't have a chance to get posted yet because of our crazy week.

Two Day Road Trip

Well, 48 hours and 1620-ish miles later, and we're back in Utah.  Lucy went on her first official road trip with us to pick up Cheri this weekend.  We left in the early hours on Sunday, drove all day, and got into Oceanside in the evening.  Shaun and I spent the night in the hotel playing with Lucy and doing homework/grading.

At the Hotel (and check out that rocking' bedspread!)

Monday morning was the first day of Team Training, so the Puppy Program manager asked us to come around 10:00/10:30 to pick up Cheri and Donnelly (whom we were also brining back to Utah). By the time we hit the road after loading up three dogs, one kennel, two humans, snacks, and other supplies, it was about 11:30.  Each pit stop along the way took extra long since we had three dogs to walk, toilet, and feed.  We rolled into Logan around 12:45 last night, but made it safe, sound, and sleepy!

Cedar City late last night.  Watch out for those alien-dogs in Iron County :)

Despite the grueling two days of kennel and car time-Lucy was great.  She rarely whined, toileted on all kinds of surfaces, and was happy at the hotel and CCI.  She's now super excited to have a new friend and is trying out her vocal skills by attention barking at Cheri (of course, she's also now learning that barking without a command is an inappropriate behavior!).

Cheri

Yes-the title of this blog is "Lucy's Blog," but I just wanted to put a quick update about Cheri, our previous service puppy in training.  Yesterday we got a call from Oceanside saying that she has been released from the program.  While this wasn't the biggest surprise, it was still really disappointing.  I guess when it came down to it, Cheri was just super stressed there and wasn't cut out to be a working dog.  After you watch this video of her tearing through the tunnel, you'll agree that her true calling in life is to be a sport dog!
