Coccidia
Just got an email from Oceanside...little Lucy tested positive for Coccidia. Coccidia is a parasite that many puppies get and is highly contagious. However, when treated, it is very non-threatening. Lucy has been treated and should be just fine, but may have a little extra diarrhea (oh boy!). We have been instructed to have her toilet away from other dogs and drink out of her own dish for a few days so that the parasite does not spread. I think I've had at least one other CCI pup who had tested positive for it before she flew out, and I don't remember it being a big deal-but it's always good to have a heads up!

Our cold weather should help kill the parasite in the fetal matter I would think.
ReplyDeleteYeah, and we don't have any pets nor will she be around other dogs for a few days, so I won't have to worry about it spreading to anybody, which is convenient.
